Israeli actress Gal Gadot is set to play Hedy Lamarr in an upcoming limited series on Showtime. The cable network made the official announcement last Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The show is about the life of Lamarr, an Austrian-born Jewish actress who starred in Hollywood movies such as Algiers<\/em> (1938), I Take This Woman<\/em> (1940), and Samson and Delilah<\/em> (1949).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Lamarr also developed a radio guidance system for Allied torpedos using a frequency-hopping signal, which led to her induction into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Of course, she is not to be confused with Hedley<\/em> Lamarr, the corrupt district attorney and main antagonist of Mel Brooks’s Blazing Saddles<\/em> (1974). Portrayed by Harvey Korman, the character often got upset when people mistakenly called him Hedy, instead of Hedley. (Per Mel Brooks’s response: “This is 1874; you’ll be able to sue her<\/em>.”)<\/p>\n\n\n\n We look forward to watching Gadot’s performance in the upcoming show.
